Young Artists Bios
Sol Park, from South Korea, is a high school senior of Bishop Seabury Academy in Lawrence, Kansas. She currently studies with Dr. Jack Winerock, Chair of the Piano Department of the University of Kansas. She began playing piano and violin at age four and has won multiple awards for piano performance in South Korea and the United States. Some of her accomplishments include first prize at the Topeka Symphony Young Artist Competition, the KCMTA Heritage Philharmonic Concerto Competition, the Haneum Music Competition, the Kansas Music Teachers Association, and the Music Teachers National Association. Sol has participated in master classes with renowned artists including Robert McDonald, Alexander Korsantia, and Alexander Braginsky. She also made her orchestral debut performing with Busan Neo Philharmonic Orchestra and has been featured in a solo recital in Seoul, South Korea at age 11. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, reading, taking photos, and playing with her dogs.
Cooper Smith is currently a senior at Liberty North High School in Liberty, Missouri. He studies privately with Professor Zachary Shemon at the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Cooper has made numerous district and state honors all throughout high school. He has been in the KC Metro All-District Band for four years. He has also been the the Missouri All-State Band for three years. He has consecutively received exemplary ratings at district and state solo and ensemble festivals all through high school. In 2018, Cooper won the North Winds Symphonic Band Solo Competition. In 2017 and 2018, he attended the Interlochen Saxophone Institute in Interlochen, Michigan. During the 2017 year at Interlochen, he was selected to be a soloist at the final concert. Cooper was also selected to play as a soloist at the Indiana University - Jacobs School of Music Saxophone Academy. Recently during his senior year, Cooper won the Missouri Music Teachers National Competition in the senior woodwind performance category. Later, he won 2nd place in the regional round. Cooper has served as an Associate and Head Drum Major in the Liberty North Screaming Eagle Marching Band. Cooper plans to study music education and saxophone performance at either Indiana University, the University of Michigan, or UMKC. Cooper also enjoys conducting, composing, and playing clarinet. Besides music, he has a strong passion for meteorology and chasing severe weather.
