            Greetings from the Music Director

            Picture
            Dear Friends,

I am excited to share with you the details of our 2011-2012 season. For our 67th year we are featuring a variety of great music and amazing soloists from the Kansas City area.

We will begin the season with sopranos Sarah Tannehill Anderson and Nicole Murray singing a variety of duets, including the stunningly beautiful Flower Duet from Lakme by Leo Delibes. Sarah and Nicole sound fantastic together and you will not want to miss this.

In December, we will welcome the season with our traditional Holiday Pops concert. The Cougar Choir from Cordill-Mason Elementary School, under the direction of Robin Stockdell, will join us for this festive occasion. You will want to join us for this concert featuring all your holiday favorites.

Our third concert features music from Britain and Ireland. We will explore the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams and feature Heritage Philharmonic Principal Violist Nell French as soloist. This program will also include the rarely performed Adagio on Celtic Melodies by Bruch. Heritage Philharmonic Principal Cellist Jodie Fuentes will e our soloist for this unique gem.

The season will conclude in May with our annual Young Artists' Concert held in conjunction with the Kansas City Music Teachers Association. In addition to featuring these talented high school musicians, this concert will also explore the music of Japan. Our concertmaster, Monty Carter, has arranged a traditional Japanese folk song for koto and orchestra. Monty arranged this work for Dianne Daugherty, who will be our koto soloist. Mr. Carter will lead the orchestra in this piece as guest conductor.

Admission to these great events is still free, but our continued success depends on assistance from loyal supporters like you. Please help by sending in your tax deductible donation today.

I look forward to seeing you soon,

            James Murray III
